CIBBRiNA has published its new report ‘Guidelines on the principles of cooperation and best practices’.
Drawing on an extensive literature review of past initiatives and the expertise of partners, the guidelines provide both core principles and a range of practical recommendations for engaging the fishing industry and policymakers. These are designed to support the work of both partners in CIBBRiNA and wider communities seeking ways forward in engaging stakeholders in monitoring and mitigating the bycatch of Endangered, Threatened, and Protected (ETP) species. However, the guidelines are also highly relevant to the broader world of fisheries management and sustainability.
The guidelines cover:
- Core principles for engagement and collaboration
- Best practices for engaging fishing industry stakeholders
- Best practices for engaging policymakers
- AI-based insight on CIBBRiNA’s literature review
- The methodology used to develop the guidelines
The guidelines in full can be found here, while a shorter summary can be found here.
As part of the development of the guidelines, CIBBRiNA has also produced a video series from partners of real-life examples of bycatch collaboration in action:
- The Dutch perspective on collaboration (LVVN)
- The role of fishers in the pelagic case study (PFA)
